Educational Opportunities

Banff Sport Medicine is actively involved in teaching high school students, medical students, orthopaedic residents, sport medicine fellows as well as national and international teaching of surgeons.

Orthopaedic Fellowship:

Banff Sport Medicine is pleased to be able to offer a fellowship placement each year.   Refer to the Orthopaedic Fellowship section below for more information.

Canadian Medical Student and Orthopaedic Resident:

We are also pleased to be able to accept a limited number of requests for 2 to 4 week placements each year. Please contact us for more information.

Please note – due to provincial licensing and academic regulations we are unable to accept any out of country students at this time.

Clinic and Operating Room Observer:

The Orthopaedic Surgeons welcome requests from high school students,  undergraduate and graduate students, as well as physiotherapists and other allied health professionals to observe a clinic or in the operating room.  Please contact us for more information.

Research Placement:

The Banff Sport Medicine Research Group welcomes applications from medical, allied health and other tertiary students to complete supervised research placements.  Please contact Research for more information.

Fellowship at Banff Sport Medicine

Orthopaedic Fellowships

Banff Sport Medicine is pleased to offer a fellowship in Sport Medicine and Arthroscopic Reconstruction of the Knee and Shoulder. The program is based in Banff, Alberta, Canada. Currently, this program is designed around a 1-year fellowship, and is open to all graduates of Canadian Orthopaedic programs, as well as any international institutions which meet the training criteria. Graduates of Canadian programs and self-funded applicants will be given preference. Training will include advanced arthroscopic reconstruction of the knee and shoulder, with an emphasis on primary and revision ACL reconstructions but also treatment of recurrent patellar instability, tibial and femoral osteotomies, osteochondral allograft transplantation, shoulder stabilization surgery including Bankart repair, Laterjet, remplissage, and rotator cuff repair. As a community hospital facility, some basic trauma coverage will also be encountered.
