Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) Claims

Banff Sport Medicine Physiotherapy is an accredited physiotherapy provider with the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) of Alberta.

Together, our physiotherapists work with you and WCB to help resolve your workplace injury to help you safely return to your normal work duties.

If you have injured yourself at work, it is your responsibility to notify your employer, contact WCB so that a claim number can be assigned to you, and then book an Initial WCB Visit (30 Minutes) with one of our physiotherapists.

For more information, check out the following guide to WCB claims: https://www.wcb.ab.ca/assets/pdfs/workers/worker_handbook.pdf

What should you do if you injure yourself at work?

If you have injured yourself at work, follow these three steps to ensure you get coverage from WCB.

 1. Report your injury to your employer immediately!

You may be required to fill out an incident report, and your employer must report your injury to WCB Alberta within 72 hours of your injury.

 2. Report your injury to WCB

WCB will provide you with the pre-requisite forms, or you can fill out the information here: https://rr.wcb.ab.ca/public/worker/create

 3. Report your injury to your physiotherapist and/or Doctor as they must report your injury to WCB within 48 hours

What to expect at your physiotherapy appointment

Your initial physiotherapy visit is covered by WCB.

During this session our physiotherapists will assess your injury and send an initial assessment report to WCB.

If your claim is approved, you are eligible for 4 consecutive weeks at a maximum of 3 visits per week (12 visits including assessment).

If ongoing physiotherapy will achieve an increase in work duties and hours, the physiotherapist may extend for a maximum 4 visits over a maximum of an additional 2 consecutive weeks, for a total of 6 calendar weeks of treatment.

If even further additional physiotherapy is anticipated to help you return to full work duties, your physiotherapist must submit a comprehensive assessment to WCB for their approval.
