Physiotherapy Functional Training

Physiotherapy + Kinesiology

This integrated service combines physiotherapy with kinesiology (strength and conditioning) and can form part of a comprehensive strategy for injury recovery, prevention, and overall physical well-being.

While a physiotherapist plays a pivotal role in diagnosing and treating injuries, a kinesiologist can help optimize physical performance and reduce the risk of injury through targeted strength and conditioning programs. By integrating physiotherapy with strength and conditioning, we aim to optimize planning and programming, and ultimately support your successful return to the activities and sports you love.

Learn more about some of the benefits of working with both a physiotherapist and kinesiologist in this Wellness Blog.

At Banff Sport Medicine, this collaborative approach ensures a smooth transition from rehabilitation to functional fitness and performance.

Appointment Information

What to expect

Please bring comfortable active wear such as a t-shirt, shorts, and clean indoor gym shoes for these 60-minute sessions.

The session begins with a 15-minute consultation with a physiotherapist. During this time, the physiotherapist conducts an assessment and/or treatment to address any immediate issues, such as relieving pain or improving movement quality. This step helps “take off the parking brake,” allowing you to move more freely and prepare for the next phase.

The remaining 45 minutes are led by a strength and conditioning coach, who performs a comprehensive movement screen to identify inefficiencies and areas requiring attention. This assessment forms the foundation for a personalized functional training program tailored to your unique needs.

Immediate takeaways from this first session include:

  • mobility, stability or strengthening exercises to address key areas
  • guidance on stretches or movements to avoid

This helps you prepare for your first strength session, ensuring you’re set up for success.

Session 2 and beyond

Option 1) Continue with physiotherapy functional training sessions: ongoing collaboration provides invaluable support via pain reduction and ongoing support regarding your programming.

Option 2) Follow up with strength and conditioning only: these sessions help guide you through your tailored program, focusing on proper form, technique, and long-term success.

Our team emphasizes clear communication and will clarify expectations at the start of the session. Whether you walk away with actionable steps for independent work or a roadmap for continued sessions, the focus is always on progress and results.

Cost and Insurance Coverage

These sessions will be billed at $170.00 as a physiotherapy appointment to allow the utilization of physiotherapy health benefits when applicable.

Please contact your insurance provider to determine what the maximum allowable coverage is for physiotherapy under your plan.

**Cancellations** A fee equal to 50% of the session will be charged for appointments cancelled with less than 24-hours notice or if you do not show up for your appointment.
