Banff Sport Medicine (BSM) is a team of health care professionals whose goal is to provide world class care in sport-related musculoskeletal trauma and reconstructive surgery. The team is comprised of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Sport Medicine Physicians, Physiotherapists, Massage Therapists, Dieticians, Strength and Conditioning Coaches, Bracing Technicians, and Research and Administrative Staff.

We are a teaching facility as such you may encounter a fellow or resident working with our surgeons and physicians.  Our fellows are fully qualified and accredited surgeons.  Our fellowship training program offers these surgeons the opportunity to gain experience in sport-related musculoskeletal trauma and reconstructive surgery. We also periodically take on short-term residencies.  Residents are medical trainees enrolled in a recognized specialty or sub-specialty training program accredited with one of the University of Calgary postgraduate medical education offices in Canada.  Our surgeons and physicians are honored to be involved in educating new surgeons and medical students.

The BSM team works to achieve excellence in three areas:

• Firstly, to provide clinical care and surgical reconstruction of sport trauma, with a particular interest in the knee and shoulder.
• Secondly, to engage in research to analyze and improve our work, and therefore provide the best-possible outcomes for our patients.
• Our third focus is providing education to disseminate knowledge and further the field of Orthopaedic Sport Medicine. This education includes regular teaching at meetings and conferences, formal fellowship training of orthopedic surgeons, elective rotations for orthopedic residents and allied health professionals, and informal teaching in our multidisciplinary clinics.

Our practice is focused on providing sport medicine and arthroscopic surgery care within Western Canada.
